In the petals of the peonies we find Aristoteles’ (384 – 322 b.C.) statement that ‘Nothing in nature is without purpose’: in Greek and Dutch. The peony thanks its name to the classical myths about Apollo. In his role of the healer Paion he made use of this flower. Roots, seeds and flowers were used for medicinal purposes – In England even until far into the 17th century. In Japan the pronouncedly female peony was popular in bridal bouquets: it stood for a fertile liaison. In China the flower is truly imperial.
Pearls symbolise patience, purity, love, fertility and peace.
